About the BWWC

The Black Women’s Wellness Club (BWWC) emerged from a clear truth: Black women deserve spaces where our wellness is not an afterthought, but centered as the very foundation of thriving. For too long, our strength has been demanded while our care has been dismissed. At the BWWC, we are re-writing that story, building spaces where Black women nurture mind, body, spirit, and community, and where healing, joy, and wholeness are the standard.
Founded by Raven K. Gipson-Washington, M.A., a mother, doctoral student and researcher, therapist, and mental health advocate, the BWWC is both a refuge and a rallying point. It is culturally rooted, academically informed, and unapologetically committed to the flourishing of Black women. Here, we blend evidence-based wellness practices with the timeless traditions of sistahood, collective care, and cultural pride.
We believe wellness is our birthright, essential, abundant, and worthy of celebration. Through community gatherings, education, research, mentorship, and service, the Black Women’s Wellness Club weaves a network of support that uplifts individuals and strengthens our collective. From the Dallas-Forth Worth area to digital spaces worldwide, we are creating a movement where Black women are not just seen, but celebrated, not just surviving, but thriving.

A Message from Our Founder
Raven K. Gipson-Washington, M.A.
As a Black woman, I have lived the reality of carrying much more than my share, mothering, striving, serving, showing up strong even when I was exhausted or felt unseen. Showing up for everyone else and rarely receiving the same care in return. I have walked into rooms where my talent and shine was overlooked or ignored, and I yearn for spaces where I can simply breathe, be nurtured, be celebrated, and just simply be.
The Black Women’s Wellness Club (BWWC) was born out of that yearning. As a Black southern woman, mother, doctoral student and researcher, therapist, and mental health advocate, I know firsthand how deeply we need spaces that honor not just our strength, but our softness. Spaces where our wellness is not negotiable, but sacred. Spaces where we can bring our whole selves, our joy, our pain, our culture, our brilliance, our magic, and be held in community.
I created the BWWC so that we would never have to walk this journey alone. Here, we center mind, body, spirit, and community as the pillars of our thriving. Here, we lean into the timeless traditions of sistahood, collective care, and cultural pride, and we weave them together with evidence-based practices that affirm and uplift us.
This is more than a community initiative. It is a refuge, a rallying point, and a movement. My hope is that when you enter this space, you feel seen, held, and empowered to step into your fullest, most joy-filled life.
This is our sistah circle. For us, by us.
Welcome home, sis.
With love and purpose,
Raven K. Gipson-Washington, M.A.
